Types
- General Power of Attorney
Operates whilst you are mentally capable to appoint individual(s) act for you whilst you are temporarily unable to do so, Ceases if you become mentally incapable
- Lasting Power of Attorney Property & Financial Affairs
Operates only after registration with the Office of the Public Guardian, normally only then used after you become mentally incapable but could be used earlier if perhaps you became very frail, Deals with your money and property.
- Lasting Power of Attorney Property Personal Welfare
Operates only after registration with the Office of the Public Guardian, and only after you become mentally incapable. Deals with how and where you will be cared for but also includes instructions as to how decisions should be made if you are critically or terminally ill.
When should I do this
- Many clients ask us to prepare these when they make their Will or are undertaking a major financial transaction
- As soon as you have others dependant upon you
- Once you have accumulated property and investments
How do I arrange this?Simply ask our receptionist to make an appointment for you and we will then
- meet with you to explain how each type works
- advise you on the most appropriate for your circumstances
- prepare the document and arrange completion by all parties
- register a Lasting Power with the Office of the Public Guardian
